The School currently employs 308 full-time faculty members, including 86 professors, 144 associate professors and senior engineers, 106 doctoral supervisors, and 226 master’s supervisors. Among them are 2 dual-appointed academicians, 1 national-level master teacher, 25 national-level leading talents, 20 national-level young talents, and 56 provincial-level talents. The School hosts over 2,900 undergraduate students, more than 1,700 master’s students, and over 500 doctoral candidates.
The School offers three undergraduate programs: Telecommunications Engineering, Information Engineering, and Spatial Information and Digital Technology.
Telecommunications Engineering is recognized as a National Characteristic Specialty, a Key National Defense Specialty, and has been accredited twice under the Engineering Education Professional Certification. It was selected as one of the first National First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Sites in 2019 and includes a joint educational program with the UK’s Heriot-Watt University.
Information Engineering is designated as a Provincial Brand Specialty in Shaanxi, has passed the Engineering Education Professional Certification, and was selected as a National First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Site in 2020.
Spatial Information and Digital Technology is among the first batch of Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Sites.
The School is authorized to confer doctoral and master’s degrees in Information and Communications Engineering and Military Command Science, as well as master’s degrees in Traffic Information Engineering and Control. Through sustained development spanning the “Ninth Five-Year Plan” to the “13th Five-Year Plan” period, and supported by the “211 Project”, the School has significantly strengthened its academic standing, with several disciplines reaching advanced levels nationally and internationally. In the 2002 and 2007 national discipline assessments, the secondary discipline of Communication and Information Systems ranked second. In the 2012 assessment, the primary discipline of Information and Communications Engineering also ranked second. It was rated Tier A in 2017 and achieved outstanding results in the 2022 assessment. In June 2017, Information and Communications Engineering was included in the national “Double First-Class” initiative for discipline construction, one of only two primary disciplines at Xidian University to receive this distinction.
The school relies on the National Key Laboratory of Integrated Service Networks, leads the construction of the Modern Wireless Information Network Basic Theory and Technology Discipline Innovation and Intelligence Base, the Shaanxi Modern Wireless Communication and Innovation Technology R&D and Support Service Platform, the Shaanxi Fenghuo-Xidian Communication Technology Research Institute, the "Information Network International Joint Research Center" Shaanxi International Science and Technology Cooperation Base, the Shaanxi Key Laboratory of Blockchain and Secure Computing, the Advanced Satellite Communication and Application Shaanxi Provincial University Engineering Research Center, the Intelligent Terminal Communication and Information Processing Shaanxi Provincial University Engineering Research Center, the Internet of Vehicles and Intelligent Transportation Shaanxi Provincial Key Laboratory, the Electromagnetic Cognition and Secure Transmission Technology Innovation and Intelligence Base, the Shaanxi Key Laboratory of Electromagnetic Cognition Communication, and the Intelligent Communication Network International Cooperation Center, totaling 2 national and 12 provincial and ministerial-level platforms.
The School actively undertakes a wide range of research projects, including those from the National Natural Science Foundation, the National Key Technology R&D Program, major national science and technology initiatives, and international cooperation programs. It has achieved numerous notable research outcomes, such as developing China’s first meteor trail communication system, the first millimeter-wave communication equipment, the first ATM switch, and the first space-grade image compression chip. These contributions have significantly advanced China’s telecommunications industry and gained recognition both domestically and internationally.
