Lecturer  Profile

Tony  Pearson’s academic background is a Bachelor’s degree in Law and a Master’s  degree in History. Most of his career was at the University of Leicester in the  UK where he was Director of the International Office and of International  Programmes. He has travelled in many parts of the world and has been a regular  visitor to China.

Lecture  Abstract

Tony’s  home has always been in the UK but he has travelled in the USA, has relatives  there, and like a lot of British people, feels that he is familiar with the  country. He is fascinated by the way in which the two countries have diverged  but maintain a “special relationship” even if it is far more important to the  UK than to the USA. His talk focuses, not so much on the issues of economics  and politics as on the things that affect the daily life of those who live in  the two countries. The cultural differences that they have developed are a rich  source of interest and pleasure and may help us to understand some of the  differences between Eastern and Western culture.
